Before You Start — What You Need

• HDF laminated flooring planks (10% extra for wastage)
• Underlayer/foam padding (if not pre-attached)
• Spacers (8-10mm) for expansion gaps
• Tapping block and rubber mallet
• Utility knife or jigsaw for cuts
• Tape measure and pencil

Step 1 — Prepare the Subfloor

Ensure the existing floor is clean, dry, and level. Any unevenness greater than 3mm over 1.5 meters should be leveled. Remove existing carpet or vinyl if present.

Step 2 — Acclimatize the Flooring

Leave the flooring boxes in the room for 48 hours before installation. This allows the boards to adjust to the room's temperature and humidity.

Step 3 — Lay the Underlayer

Roll out the foam underlayer across the floor. Tape joins. This provides cushioning and moisture barrier between subfloor and laminate.

Step 4 — Start Installation

Start from the left corner of the room. Place spacers against the wall (8-10mm gap needed for expansion). Click the first plank into position. Click subsequent planks end-to-end in the first row.

Step 5 — Continue Row by Row

Start each new row with the offcut from the previous row (minimum 300mm long). Stagger joints by at least 300mm. Use tapping block and mallet to gently click planks together.

Step 6 — Finish with Skirting & Trims

Once all planks are laid, remove spacers and install skirting boards or floor trims to cover the expansion gap.
